Qigong meditation is a centuries-old meditation practice of movement and breathing used for martial-arts, health and spirituality. Qigong (Pronounced chi gong) is defined as “life energy.” However, Studies remain inconclusive as to its effectiveness in certain areas.
Qigong got its start in Daoism and Buddhism as a meditation practice, and in Confucianism to promote moral character and longevity. Qigong is a regulated practice in China.
In parts of traditional Chinese medicine, it is believed that qi travels throughout the body and is the balance of yin and yang. A person becomes ill or dies when the qi is unbalanced or diminished. It is believed that one can return to health by eliminating qi blockages, rebuilding qi, and correcting qi imbalances.Daoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism all have different interpretations of qigong
QiGong Meditation Techniques
Qigong takes on many forms and can be seen as medical qigong, martial qigong, spiritual qigong and intellectual qigong. Qigong Meditation uses several techniques in its practice.

Dynamic Practice – Coordinated movement with breath and awareness of how the body is moving through space. Some forms mimic the move of animals. Moves typically are repetitive, involve balance, and strengthen or stretch the body. When done quickly, some movements have become part of the martial arts.
Static Practice– Positions are held for long periods of time. The technique is similar to yoga and certain forms of martial arts.
Meditation Practice – Qigong uses breath, chanting, visualization, sound and mantras to focus on “qi circulation”, Qigong beliefs , aesthetics and other goals. In traditional chinese medicine Qigong is practiced for the purposes of harnessing qi. In the confucious tradition, focus is based on self-enlightenment and virtue.
External agents – Specialized food and drinks are available for the Daoist forms of qigong. In other forms, a qigong masters uses techniques to transfer qi from their body.
Qigong in science
The existence of qi has not been proven in an experimental setting. However, What we do know is that qigong may improve the balance and stability in older people, reduce back pain,help with parkisons, and reduce pain from knee osteoarthritis. Qigong may also improve the quality of life for those with cancer, heart disease, and other chronic illnesses.
